Four Days of Learning and Growth at the Marondera Youth Camp

24 July 2026

From 13 to 16 July 2026, 105 young people gathered in Marondera for a four-day camp focused on mental health, reproductive health, substance-use prevention and entrepreneurship. Through honest discussions and practical activities, participants gained confidence, developed business ideas and learned where to access free, confidential support through the 393 Youth Helpline.

From 13 to 16 July 2026, 105 young people gathered at Karumazondo in Marondera District for a four-day youth camp organised by Youth Advocates Zimbabwe with support from The Egmont Trust. The camp created a safe space for participants to discuss challenges such as peer pressure, drug and alcohol use, bullying, family conflict, unemployment, gender-based violence and mental health. Through the Hope Hubs model, participants explored four key areas: mental health and psychosocial support, sexual and reproductive health, drug and substance-use prevention, and economic empowerment. One of the most powerful activities was the Tree of Life exercise, where participants reflected on their backgrounds, strengths, support systems, challenges and dreams. One participant said: “I realised I am not the only one facing challenges.” Participants also learned about healthy relationships, consent, personal safety, entrepreneurship, budgeting, business planning, marketing and financial literacy. They developed business ideas and practised presenting them through short pitches. The young people were introduced to YALeP, a WhatsApp-based leadership and life-skills programme, and the 393 Youth Helpline, which provides free and confidential counselling, information and referrals. The camp showed that when young people are given safe spaces, practical knowledge and support, they can build confidence and make positive decisions about their futures. Need someone to talk to?
